The Christmas Pumpkin

The Christmas Pumpkin is the story of James, who believes there has to be a way to use the green pumpkin that came from his father’s pumpkin patch. It never did turn the orange color that would be perfect to use for the traditional fall decoration.
His mother tells him,
“Son, don’t worry about what people say. I think it is a great idea. Tomorrow I will take you to the store and you can get some decorations for your Christmas Pumpkin.”
James talks to several people about making his pumpkin a Christmas pumpkin because it is green. No one wanted to help him, except one little man with a white beard. Because of the little old man’s support, James comes up with an idea and carries it out.
Read the book to find out what happens to James’ pumpkin and the support he gets when he decorates it and displays it at Christmas. This is a good book for children to learn to use their imagination and for parents to help their children nurture their creativity.
The Christmas Pumpkin is a 2011 NTBF Award Finalist for children’s books, presented at the North Texas Book Festival on April 16, 2011 at the Center for the Visual Arts in Denton, Texas.
