Europa

Science fiction has changed a lot since I read it as a young person in the days of Heinlein and Asimov. But of course it has to, since I was taught that science fiction was the science of the future. Mr. Sanderlin has not disappointed me. Europa is the first in a series entitled The Black Chronicles. It is going to be exciting to see how the stories unfold as Jonas Black discovers the world outside of Europa, his domicile of choice at the beginning.
Jonas builds a futuristic craft that he is planning to use to explore the underwater of Jupiter’s moon, Europa. He soon begins his journey as, unbeknownst to him, his home is taken over by mercenaries.
“It was always easy to stay where you were comfortable, to never step out and try something new. Jonas did not want to be one of those unadventurous people who never tried anything. He did not want to grow old and wish he had done more, or at least made the attempt. It was not that he didn’t enjoy peace and quiet, but he did not want to miss the chance to take a look around at all the galaxy had to offer.”
As the story unfolds, Jonas loses the ship that he built with his father and, with the help of his best friends and an old friend of his parents, deals with the mercenaries and with the deaths of his parents.
The author is going to have an exciting and memorable series with The Black Chronicles as he follows Jonas and his friends through the future. I am looking forward to reading his next book.
